The Zurich Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series Madrid Half Marathon is scheduled for 25 April 2027. It shares the event weekend with the marathon but has its own 21.097 km course, classification and services. The organiser describes 2027 as the 49th edition and has allocated 30,000 of the event’s 47,000 places to the half marathon.
The 2027 programme has two distances: marathon and half marathon. The 10K offered in previous editions is no longer listed. The official general information announces more than 30 entertainment points and identifies the race as part of the Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series, organised by AD. MAPOMA.
This guide separates confirmed information from details that remain open. The 2027 route is published, but the first-wave start time is still to be announced. The organiser has not published a positive-elevation total, so an estimate should not be presented as an official figure.

The rules state that rankings use net time. The announced half-marathon pacers are 1:30, 1:40, 1:50 and 2:00, also based on net time. Final participant instructions take priority if a schedule or service changes.
The organiser has published the official 2027 course map (PDF). It distinguishes the 21K route from the marathon and marks the start, finish, kilometre points, aid stations, entertainment, toilets and medical services.
The map is useful for learning turns and city references, but it does not provide an elevation profile or a total ascent figure. This guide therefore does not promise a particular elevation gain or label the course fast or slow using an unpublished number. Base any reconnaissance on the 2027 map, not a route from an earlier edition.
Madrid may adjust streets for works, safety or race operations. Download the map again and read the final instructions during the last two weeks. A file saved months in advance may not show a later change.
The start is on Paseo de la Castellana beside Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz. The organiser recommends public transport and gives Gregorio Marañón, on Metro lines 7 and 10, and Rubén Darío, on line 5, as nearby references.
The finish is on Paseo de Recoletos between Plaza de Cibeles and Plaza de Colón. The start and finish are separate locations. Understand that before choosing accommodation, arranging a meeting point or deciding where to leave your official bag.
The current rules allow three hours from the departure of the last wave and include a checkpoint schedule. The FAQ, however, still shows the course-closing time as pending. Because those two official surfaces are not yet aligned, treat the final runner instructions as decisive rather than assuming a provisional time is guaranteed.
The official registration information sets out four phases: loyalty access from 6 to 10 May 2026, priority access from 11 to 13 May, general entry from 14 May at 10:00 while places remain, and a waiting list after capacity is reached.
| Published 21K tier | Base price |
|---|---|
| Up to 5,000 entries or 31 May 2026 | €40 |
| Up to 10,000 entries or 30 September 2026 | €50 |
| Up to 20,000 entries or 31 December 2026 | €80 |
| Up to 30,000 entries or 11 April 2027 | €100 |
| Waiting list | €130 |
An additional €4 RFEA licence charge applies when the entrant does not already have valid cover. This is the published scale, not a claim about today’s active tier or availability: demand and the live registration system determine both. Check before paying.
The current policy also offers a 90% injury refund with supporting medical evidence submitted by 31 March 2027. Entries are not transferable to a future edition or another event, and force-majeure changes do not automatically create a refund right. Read the live terms at checkout because they govern the purchase.
The official rules define the half marathon as 21,097 metres and require participants to be at least 18 on race day. Runners may enter with or without an existing federation licence, but everyone needs RFEA cover; it can be arranged during registration.
Bib numbers are personal. A change of holder or distance is only valid through the published process and within its deadlines. Running a distance other than the one assigned to the bib may lead to disqualification.
The classifications include men’s and women’s overall results, age groups and adapted categories. A visually impaired athlete who needs a guide can request one through the organiser’s stated channel. Review the category-specific requirements before completing registration.
The official 2027 FAQ places the Runner Expo at IFEMA on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 April, from 10:00 to 20:00. There is no race-day bib collection.
Collection requires the confirmation or QR code and a passport, national identity card or other photo ID. Another person may collect on the entrant’s behalf if they present the participant’s documents. Keeping accessible copies on a phone reduces dependence on email or mobile reception at the desk.
The collection pack includes the bib, event shirt and runner bag. Current information also says the half-marathon Fuel Bag contains one gel. Test any sports product before race weekend; receiving it at the expo does not make it suitable for you.
Bag drop is free, but it accepts only the official bag marked with the bib sticker. Suitcases, other bags and loose items are not accepted. Current information gives an opening time of 07:00 and a 14:00 closing time for the 21K service.
The FAQ places the service in the organiser’s marked area along the Castellana–Recoletos axis. Because the start and finish are apart and road closures affect the centre, check the final map before choosing your route. Metro is generally more predictable than trying to park nearby.
For supporters, a practical plan is to choose one or two places reachable by public transport and avoid improvised course crossings. The finish straight is long, but only participants may pass through the finish arch.
The current official plan lists water at kilometres 5, 10.5, 16 and 20, plus the finish. Powerade is listed at kilometres 5 and 11 and at the finish. The organiser may adjust these locations for operational reasons and communicate any change in the final instructions.
The 21K Fuel Bag contains one pre-race gel. The FAQ announces one additional on-course gel point only for the marathon, at kilometre 30; that service should not be attributed to the half marathon.
Portable toilets are planned at the start, finish and aid stations. Medical services are also marked on the course map. These facilities help, but each runner still needs a drinking and fuelling approach that has been tested in training and suits their own needs.
A half marathon requires enough endurance to sustain effort for 21.097 km. The appropriate plan depends on current fitness, injury history, available time and experience. A universal ten-week table cannot guarantee a safe finish or a particular result.
Build training progressively, include some continuous running and test shoes, clothing and breakfast in advance. If you use gels, practise with them. Preparation also means knowing how to reach the start, use bag drop and find the correct wave.
Persistent pain, illness or unusual fatigue are reasons to adjust the plan. Seek qualified advice for medical concerns or significant uncertainty. The organiser’s recommendation to consider a health check does not turn this guide into clinical advice.
The first-wave time is still pending, so breakfast, transport and bag-drop timings should be finalised only after the participant instructions are released. Arrive with margin and enter the assigned corral; wave starts reduce congestion and are linked to the predicted time supplied during entry.
Run by controlled effort rather than an assumed elevation figure. The official map helps identify turns and service points, but conditions will also depend on wind, temperature, crowd density and the pace you choose.
Pacers can be a reference, not an obligation. They work to net time. If the closing vehicle catches a runner outside the allowed schedule, the rules say that runner must recover the permitted pace or board the sweep vehicle.
The organiser-linked 2026 timing is available on Sporthive. Gideon Kiprop led the men’s classification in a chip time of 1:01:47. Isabel Barreiro García was the first woman in 1:12:25.
Those are historical 2026 results, not universal targets or predictions for 2027. They identify the edition and distance correctly; marathon results or results from the discontinued 10K are not substitutes for the 21K classification.
The organiser expects provisional results on race day and final results after the claims period. The official results channel will need to be checked after the 2027 race.
Sunday 25 April 2027. The first-wave time is still shown as pending and should be confirmed in the final participant instructions.
The start is planned for Paseo de la Castellana beside Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz. The finish is on Paseo de Recoletos between Cibeles and Colón.
The published 21K scale is €40, €50, €80 or €100 depending on the tier, with €130 for the waiting list. Add the €4 RFEA licence charge when applicable and check which tier is live.
The current rules state three hours from the last wave. Because the FAQ still shows the closing time as pending, the final participant instructions must take priority.
No. Collection is scheduled at IFEMA on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 April, from 10:00 to 20:00. Bring the QR code or confirmation and photo ID.
The current plan includes water at kilometres 5, 10.5, 16 and 20 and at the finish; Powerade at kilometres 5 and 11 and at the finish. Check the final instructions for changes.
