How to use this

  1. Choose kilometres or miles, then finish time, pace or speed. Pace = time ÷ distance.
  2. Use 5K, 10K, 21K or 42K. The last two use the full race distances: 21.0975 and 42.195 km.
  3. Enter time as HH:MM:SS or MM:SS and pace as M:SS. At 5:00/km, 10 km takes 50:00; speed is 12 km/h.

Running pace questions

How do I calculate pace per kilometre?

Divide total time by distance in kilometres. Running 10 km in 50 minutes gives 5:00/km. Multiply pace by distance to calculate finish time.

How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?

One mile is 1.609344 km. Multiply seconds per km by 1.609344: 5:00/km becomes 8:03/mile, rounded to the nearest second.

What pace do I need for a two-hour half marathon or four-hour marathon?

Both require about 5:41/km. Choose 21K and 2:00:00, or 42K and 4:00:00, in pace mode. The calculator uses 21.0975 and 42.195 km and keeps the unrounded pace internally so the finish time matches your target.

Do pace charts predict my race performance?

No. They convert a constant pace into finish times. Hills, heat, fatigue and stops can change your actual pace. Displayed times round to the nearest second.
